2025 Indiana SET 11 October 2025 - News Release
Amateur radio Skywarn Spotters, the National Weather Service IWX Northern Indiana, and the Porter County Emergency Management Agency joined the ARES Indiana Section/ District 1 in a severe weather related exercise. Jointly creating communication links, including the ARES Cook County, Illinois Emergency Coordinator, K9WIC. Combining HF digital, HF Winlink, and VHF radio techniques ARES Emergency Coordinators KC9AFE and KD9LWR utilized their expertise to direct auxiliary radio operators successfully to transmit “Damage Assessments” and Welfare Radiograms throughout Lake, LaPorte, and Porter Counties, Indiana. RADOS, Net Control operators: AC9XN and KD9VUV provided radio network control. N8QKJ and his IWX team was instrumental creating a communication link, as well as Lance Bella, Porter County EMA Director. AK9R, Section Manager was also an active stakeholder with a Winlink reply message to K9WIC. Participants exhibited professional and active interaction contributing to an exercise designed by KD9EDR, Section Emergency Coordinator, pursuing the goal to save lives and assist our Communities.
